Visiting Liverpool

Probably™ the best city in the world. Here are some of our favourite things to do.

Eat & drink

You'll know we love food and have spent the past 8 years eating our way around Liverpool! Here are some of our favourites. We'd recomment booking as most of these get fully booked.

Eat

  • The Quarter: great pasta, tiramisu and vegan carrot cake (but you wouldn't know). Very close to the Hope Street Hotel too!
  • Tiger Rock: Asian small plates. Restaurants on Renshaw St and North John St are close.
  • Bacaro: On Castle St for Italian small plates - the lamb tagliatelle is immense. Head to Queen's Wine Bar for an aperitivo too. We go for a glass of wine and have never not ordered their foccacia.
  • Salt House Tapas: Same owners as Bacaro but Spanish tapas.
  • Mowgli: Now a national treasure but the first one opened on Bold Street!
  • Wang's Dumplings: Amazing Chinese dumplings. You can't book here, it has two tables!

Drink

  • The area around Hope Street has lots of good pubs - the Philharmonic (and its urinals) is worth a look even if you don't have a pint!
  • Pubs we like: The Bridewell (ex. police station), St Peters Tavern (ex. church), The Vines (go into the back room), Roscoe Head, Baltic Fleet (if you're that way).
  • Bars we like: Berry and Rye (it's hidden) and Petit Café are both in Chinatown. Queens Wine Bar just off Castle St. Daffodil is the old ferry in docks, good in the sunshine.
  • Coffee: 92 degrees is a great Liverpool coffee brand. They have a branch underneath the Hope Street Hotel and a few more around town.

Things to Do

  • Visit the cathedrals, they're either end of Hope Street. You can go up the anglican cathedral for some of the best views of the city (its the tallest in the UK) and there's a lift!
  • Walk around the city - we love walking around the docks (including the Albert Dock).
  • Beaches: Formby is the nicest, car park is expensive. There are nice beaches on the Wirral too, including West Kirby where we got engaged! Most are easily accessible by Merseyrail.
  • Port Sunlight - where Lauryn works but people actually go as a day trip. It's a very pretty village originally made for the Unilever factory workers.

We'd probably not recommend Crosby beach based on what you can see in the photo...
